184 Group and Save Studies Prior to Appendicectomy

Abstract Aim Group and save studies prior to appendicectomy Method 219 cases from Jan 2018 until Dec 2020. This was look for whether patients had a blood transfusion post appendicectomy. Whether this cost effective? Results 19/219 did not have G S performed. None of the required operatively. Price per bottle £20 Conclusions Based on above results we referred study performed by RCS Royal College Surgeons ‘blood group antibody screening emergency laparoscopy’. Study included 562 cases. Concluded that routine G&S are ‘majority low risk major intraoperative haemorrhage’ thus warranted O –ve can be used in acute haemorrhage vessel injury Time taken receive neg = minutes.
